Manduca is a valuable model for studying gut inflammation but currently lacks a physiological reference standard. This is why we created a surface atlas using scanning electron microscopy and nano-computed tomography. This atlas aids in identifying abnormal gut phenotypes and estimating the resorptive midgut surface area, facilitating dose conversion in preclinical research according to the 3R principle.
